Gratitude Wednesday: Thank You for Not Following My Plan

The plans life has for us are definitely better than the ones we have in mind.

This week, I found myself reflecting on how, for years, I’ve had a sort of bucket list. A very personal, mental list of five cities I’ve always dreamed of visiting kind of like my top dream destinations. I used to think that if I managed to visit those five places, I could consider myself more than satisfied with my life as a traveler.

And yet, here I am. I haven’t set foot in any of those five cities.

But I have been to other places that not only weren’t on the list, but that I didn’t even know existed or could hold something special for me. Some came through work, others through love, family, an unexpected opportunity, or a last-minute change of plans.

And this reflection doesn’t come from a place of complaint or disappointment. Quite the opposite. Today, it comes from a place full of gratitude. Because once again, I realize that the plans God has for me have been, and continue to be, far better than the ones I imagine in my head.

Besides, these plans don’t require so much planning on my part. And that has brought me peace. It has freed me from that constant anxiety of wanting to control everything. Because when it’s God’s plan, when it’s His will, everything simply falls into place.

Every detour has had a purpose. Every surprise has come with a lesson.

And although I must admit I’m not a fan of surprises, lately these “interruptions” to my life plan are starting to grow on me.

So thank you.

Thank you, life.

Thank you, God.

Thank you for not following my plan.

Grateful to have you here, heart to heart.

Melli
