Gratitude Wednesday: Our Lady of La Leche and Happy Delivery

About twelve years ago, in one of my many searches to find meaning and hope on my path to motherhood, I came across the story of Our Lady of La Leche and Happy Delivery.

This manifestation of the Virgin Mary is especially beloved by those seeking comfort in infertility, navigating complicated pregnancies, or hoping for a safe and healthy birth. I don’t remember exactly who first told me about her, but I do clearly remember the gift they gave me: a little prayer card with her image, a prayer written on the back, and a story that has accompanied me ever since.

Not long after that, my husband and I traveled to visit her chapel in St. Augustine, Florida. A beautiful place, full of greenery, close to the sea, a place that brings a serene peace, the kind that fills your heart. The chapel is small, cozy… and there, in silence and with our hearts full of hope, we asked her to walk with us on this journey, to guide us toward our children. In the middle of our prayers, we made a promise: to return one day with our children and offer our thanks.

Today, so many years later, I can say that we kept that promise twice.

This Gratitude Wednesday, I want to take a moment and give thanks for the privilege of returning to her chapel with both of our children, and for the chance to share with them the story of this Virgin who was with us even before they arrived.

Thank you, Our Lady of La Leche, for hearing our prayers.

For walking alongside the birth mothers of our children during their pregnancies.

For allowing the birth of our children to be safe and full of life.

For allowing the birth of our children to be safe and full of life.

For giving us hope when the road felt far too long.

For allowing us to teach our children about faith and gratitude.

Thank you for reminding us that family dreams are also born of love, faith, and hope.

To those who are still waiting, may this story wrap around your heart like a warm embrace.

And if you’ve never heard of Our Lady of La Leche and Happy Delivery, I hope today is the beginning of a relationship filled with tenderness and hope.

Grateful to have you here, heart to heart.

Melli
