On a planet thousands of light-years away lived a loving couple: Jor-El and Lara. Because their planet faced an imminent danger that threatened the lives of its inhabitants, they were forced to make a very difficult decision. Guided by selfless and unconditional love, they understood that they had to focus their energy on saving their little baby.
With broken hearts, Jor-El and Lara concluded that the best solution was to send their son to live on another planet, knowing that this meant they would be separated from him forever. So Jor-El researched possible destinations where their son could have a better life.
In his search, he found the planet Earth. He studied its atmosphere, culture, inhabitants, and possibilities… and concluded that on Earth, his son would have a new chance.
Once the destination was chosen, Jor-El built a small spaceship so Kal-El could begin his journey. With great pain, they said goodbye to him, hoping he would find a safe home with parents who would welcome him with love and give him the future they could not.
Kal-El set off on his voyage and, after some time, arrived at his destination: planet Earth. Jonathan and Martha Kent, who had long prayed to God for a child, found the spaceship. When they approached, they discovered a boy inside. Without hesitation, they embraced him, brought him home, and raised him with all the love they had to give. They named him Clark Kent.
And so Superman was born. The most famous superhero of all time. Behind the blue suit, the red cape, and the great “S” on his chest… there is a story of adoption.
Behind the blue suit, the red cape, and the great “S” on his chest… there is a story of adoption.
The story of a deeply loved child, separated from his biological parents by extraordinary circumstances, but not for lack of love. They, hoping to offer him a better future, planned a path they could not be part of. On the other side were his adoptive parents, who dreamed of him even before meeting him, ready to receive him.
It is a story where difficult decisions were made out of love. Decisions that were planned, studied, and carefully considered. Where, guided by deep and selfless love, biological parents entrusted their child’s future to adoptive parents. And where those adoptive parents, filled with love and faith, built a home for that child, created a family, and wrote a new story.
Superman’s story holds a special meaning for me. Not only because it is a superhero story, but because, in some way, it resembles the story of the arrival of our second child.
He, like Superman, was sent to us with a purpose. His biological parents did their homework: they researched, thought, and dreamed of a better future for their baby… and they chose us.
And like every good superhero story, ours also had moments of suspense, brave decisions, and a whole lot of love.
Our son arrived with his own superpowers: the speed of Flash, the agility of Spiderman, the vision of Superman… but above all, with a very clear mission: to complete us..
In the coming weeks, I invite you to join me on our second adventure: how we said “yes” again, how we realized someone was missing at home, and how we found that little piece that now makes us feel complete.
Our own superhero.
Grateful to have you here, heart to heart.
Melli
