Since I was a child, I’ve always had dogs, they have always been an important part of my family. Naturally, my husband knew that once we had our own home, we would have our furry family member. We both agreed we wanted a big dog; my husband wanted a Labrador, and I wanted a Golden Retriever.
I searched and searched, until one day I came across an ad on Craigslist. We contacted the person, and without thinking too much, drove an hour to pick her up. I remember when we arrived there were 12 puppies in a pen. It was hard to choose, but she was the chubbiest one, barely able to walk, and she came over to us somehow, stealing our hearts instantly.
That’s how Nalacame into our lives, just four weeks old, a little ball of fur with a unique sweetness. From that day on, Nala became my loyal companion.
Eleven years have passed. She walks more slowly now, and her muzzle is streaked with gray, but her essence remains intact. When we’re sad, she’s the first to sit by our side, resting her nose on our legs as if she knows exactly what we need, always reminding us that we’re not alone.
Nala has made our life so much fuller. Our family story could not be told without her, because she has been there in every chapter with her nobility, her joy, and the sweetness that makes her so unique.
Today, I want to give thanks for Nala: for eleven years of joy, for being with us through good times and bad, for patiently waiting and greeting us with those uncontrollable tail wags, for joining me every morning to wake the kids, and for giving love without measure.
Thank you, Nala, for being my faithful companion. For teaching me true unconditional love. For reminding me that gratitude can also be learned from those who don’t speak with words but do so with gestures, looks, and their presence. 🐾
Grateful to have you here, heart to heart.
Melli
